One cup of coffee with cream, please.

 Good morning, God!  How does this go?  Acknowledge that you are sovereign God. P-R-A-Y.  Oh, yeah. Praise. Repent. Ask. Yield. 

·        P-You are an awesome and worthy God, creator of everything.  (Give credit.)  Thank you for this day, food, whatever is on this prayer list.

·        R- Forgive me for all my sins and you know what these are.  I don’t have time right now to list them all and we have talked about this before.  Moving on.

·        A-You know I really want this job.  You did say something about asking and we will receive.  Can I get you to make this happen for me?  I really need this new job so that I can make enough to get another car.  This one is working but it looks terrible and people look at me.  You also said something about everybody working for their own stuff, house, food, and all that.  I really want this job and car as soon as possible.

·        Y-This is what I want but you already know my heart.  If this is not your will, can you put an even better job in my future.  Could you make this Your will?

All these things, I pray in your name.

That’s all I need to do, right?  I’ll be sure to let everyone know that you gave me this job like you said to do.

What?  What are you saying to me?  Look it up on GOOGLE:  Humility meaning in the Bible?  You are using GOOGLE?

Okay, here is what it says:  A virtue that involves being meek, obedient and respectful of others and oneself.  It means putting others’ needs before your own.

What?  Think about what my niece says every time something bad or hurtful happens to her?  Oh, yeah.  She asks YOU what is the lesson YOU want her to learn from this.  One hundred percent she means it.  She also talks about “peace that is beyond understanding,” you know, the one that is in Philippians 4:7.  No, she is not mad or upset or feels like she has been betrayed or tricked or ignored or anything.  She smiles as the tears run down her cheeks in grief and love for YOU as the same time.

What?  YOU want me to stop praying meaningless prayers and have humble, heartfelt, meaningful conversations with you and to start just working on trying to be obedient to all that you have explained so many times in so many examples.  You want me to do a reset, refresh, engage in some remedial reading in YOUR BIBLE and learn how to mean it when I pray.

I’m getting it.  I am sitting at YOUR table and waiting for you to come over and take my order for coffee with a generous amount of cream.  I am so sorry that I have prayed to like you are a server to me instead of trying to being a server to you.  I should be asking what you want me to do for you.  And, I get it that you want to hear some sincere appreciation for the fact that we are and that we ARE in a place like this beautiful earth and not just gripe about not having all that everything we want.    I am getting it that I need to reach out to those around me and help with what they need without saying, “Look what I am doing in the name of GOD.”

When they ask why, I can tell them that God tells us to share our gifts, our blessings, and our time.  You are telling me you can take it from there?
