Blessings from an Unsung Hero

Last week during our Sunday School class, Kathy (sister and teacher) asked that each of us think about blessings we have received and share these.  Because we do live sessions for those who are not able on that day to come in person, class followers already know some of the top blessings of our lives.  The fact is that Kathy and I both have some blessings on the BIG side of the blessings tracker.

The surgeon who addressed an aneurysm that had developed in the circle of Willis in my brain (that’s dead center of that organ) did not give me great odds for complete recovery.  The odds just were not in my favor.  But, God was.  The BUBBLE is gone and I don’t appear to be brain damaged, at least not to many!  LOL

That was one short session in my life and, man, there have been many.  I mean a lot of “saves” that were it the upper percentage of BIG STUFF.    

An “unsung hero” is a hero who does valuable, often challenging work without receiving recognition or praise for their contributions. “Unsung heroes” make a significant impact but go largely unnoticed, with their efforts sometimes taken for granted. (copied for AI on Google}

God, I think, is the most UNSUNG hero in today’s world, as well as every day before and after.  There is no way I can convey how blessed I am, have been, and expect to be as long as I walk the earth. God is so much more than just an UNSUNG HERO:  He is Creator, Father, generous and, and …… 

Let me start with yesterday and some car ride conversations.  My oldest sister was looking out the side window and then made some comments that went something like this:  Look outside!  It is so beautiful today.  We live in a beautiful place.  In fact, this whole world is so beautiful.  God is awesome!  I had another conversation earlier in the day with another sister whose comments went along these lines:  I am so blessed.  Then she proceeded to talk about the many comforts of daily living, such as warm house, great foods to eat, ability to do and do so many things.  Others with the same health challenges as her have either left this world or are debilitated.  She named many more, big and small.  Her’s is a grateful heart.

These two sisters are just a hint of my daily blessings.  I, too, live in a warm (cooled when needed) house, enjoy the comforts of my bed, appliances, car, a wonderful array of foods from around the world that can be found in Kroger (yes, I really like to eat!), and then there are * OTHERS. Stay with me.

I return unhurt from driving any place (some on the roads seen intent of killing other drivers).  I have a car.  I have a home with stove, refrig, and too many kitchen gadgets.  My body is still fit enough that I mowed yard yesterday evening and was still able to get up and come to my computer this morning. I have a computer.  I made feel financially vulnerable at times but I still have some in my IRA and 401K.  Some don’t have these.  I don’t even know all the daily blessings that I take for granted but I KNOW that *God loves me and provides ways for my needs.

****The following blessing deserves so many asterisks that there is not room here to list.  God gave His Son as a sacrifice so that I can live after this body fails.  The thing is, after I exit this life, I will get to be with God, with Jesus, and will be in the company of many others who are loved by our Maker, Father and all that He is. My life in this body is not all there is!

Philippians 4:19-20     And now I have it all—and keep getting more! The gifts you sent with Epaphroditus were more than enough, like a sweet-smelling sacrifice roasting on the altar, filling the air with fragrance, pleasing God to no end.
